Swine industry is currently facing many challenges including stricter regulations to reduce nitrogen (N) excretion and ammonia emission. Nutritional strategies to solve these problems include feed formulation to reduce excess protein and based net energy system which allows to better predict performance and carcass quality and manage the inclusion of alternative feedstuffs into the diets. Based on recent trials with growing-finishing pigs, 1%-unit dietary CP reduction, on average, results 9% less N excretion or 12% lower ammonia emission. Depending on the current ingredient prices, reduced CP diets using five crystalline AA (up to L-Val) in growing pig diets can be cost effective.
