The foundation of the LAKTA® series is the lactic acid-based liquid feed preservative PEKONI LAKTA-HAPPO, developed in collaboration between Finlactic Oy and Suomen Rehu (now Hankkija Oy) and launched in 2012.
Studies have shown that lactic acid has a clear positive effect on the microbiological condition of liquid feed. The ratio of yeasts to lactic acid bacteria is a direct indicator of the quality of liquid feed: The more lactic acid bacteria in the feed relative to yeasts, the more palatable and better the feed.
Using PEKONI LAKTA-HAPPO in preservation, the acidity of the liquid feed can be regulated, and the fermentation of the liquid feed can be directed towards the desired microbial growth, i.e., it can reduce the number of yeasts in the liquid feed while strengthening the natural lactic acid bacteria population in the pig’s digestive system.
The effects of the acids contained in the product are beneficial for animal health, so the product’s effectiveness is not solely based on regulating the pH of the liquid feed. Experiences from farms have shown that switching from formic acid-based preservatives to LAKTA® series products has accelerated daily growth.
