SpeedControl – Controlled milk flow for more natural calf feeding

Suckling is an important part of a calf’s natural feeding behaviour. SpeedControl from Holm & Laue controls the milk flow at the CalfExpert and stabilises drinking speed. This extends feeding time and allows calves to better satisfy their natural sucking instinct. More intensive sucking also stimulates saliva production.

Another important benefit is consistency. With conventional teats, milk flow can change as the teat wears, causing variations in drinking speed that are not necessarily related to the calf itself. SpeedControl reduces this influence and provides more consistent conditions during milk intake. As a result, drinking speed recorded by the CalfExpert becomes a more reliable parameter for monitoring calves.

SpeedControl is available in two versions: YELLOW stabilises drinking speed at approximately 600 ml/min and is standard on all CalfExpert automatic feeders. BLUEreduces milk flow to approximately 450–500 ml/min, providing a slower drinking speed that is even closer to the calf’s natural sucking behaviour.

The simple technology requires no additional sensors or active valve control. A small component with a clear effect – supporting more natural drinking behaviour, more meaningful data and easy everyday use in the calf barn.
