About the Speaker

Marie-Laure Ocaña is passionate for the dairy industry for more than 15 years. Based in France, she holds an engineering degree in Agriculture from the Institut Supérieur d'Agriculture (France) and an M.Sc. in Animal Science (Preventive Animal Health and Welfare) from Wageningen University (The Netherlands). After several years working for a French consulting company and some veterinary pharmaceutical companies, she joined Zinpro as a Dairy Technical Service Manager, supporting nutritionists, producers and industry partners across Europe with practical, science-based dairy nutrition and on-farm training. Her technical focus includes transition cows, cattle management and youngstock. She is the technical coordinator for Zinpro IsoFerm in EU, bringing science to practice to in the field.

Improving metabolic adaptation around calving : the role of isoacids

The transition period is one of the most demanding stages in a dairy cow’s life, with rising nutrient requirements and reduced feed intake leading to negative energy balance and body reserve mobilisation. While transition strategies have traditionally focused on body condition, intake and liver function, research highlights the importance of preserving muscle tissue and protein reserves around calving. Isoacids support fibre digesting rumen bacteria, improving nutrient utilisation and microbial protein synthesis.
