How can sustainability data be used securely, seamlessly, and with minimal additional effort across the meat value chain? Using the carbon footprint of meat production as an example, the project "SustainChain", funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU), brings together perspectives from agriculture, meat processing, industry associations, and research. The discussion focuses on which data are already available, where where a seamless data exchange is not given and duplicate data entry occur. It also outlines how secure, integrated data flows can reduce manual effort, simplify carbon footprint calculations and sustainability reporting, and enable operational improvements.
