Neil Joseph Tirchett is an animal scientist specialising in sustainable livestock production and animal welfare, with a particular focus on pig production systems. He holds an MSc in Animal Science from Wageningen University & Research, specialising in Global and Sustainable Production.
Neil has experience across research, animal welfare policy and applied livestock production, including work with the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the Maltese Ministry for Agriculture and Teagasc - Ireland. At Teagasc, he is working as a Research Officer within the Pig & Poultry Research and Knowledge Transfer Department and is closely involved in the coordination of the EU-funded WelFarmers project, an EU-wide network supporting the uptake of practical innovations and good practices for improved pig welfare.
His interests focus on bridging science, farming practice and policy to support practical and sustainable improvements in pig welfare.
