Optifarm (By Speria)
David Speller spent more than 20 years farming broiler chickens in the UK while simultaneously developing Optifarm, an artificial intelligence (AI) business focused on turning existing farm data into unique insights into animal productivity, health and welfare across poultry and pig production. Following Speria’s acquisition of Optifarm, David continues to advance the application of AI and animal intelligence within Speria’s vision for more predictive and autonomous food production. Drawing on both practical farming experience and technology innovation, Speller is passionate about using AI informed by deep sector knowledge to reveal the root causes of on-farm issues and support timely remedial action, not simply to issue alerts or capture more data.

Animals generate signals about their health, welfare, and performance, but those signals are often difficult to detect early or interpret consistently at scale. This session explores how connected monitoring, farm-management systems, and analytics can help producers better understand animal behavior, identify changes sooner, and make informed operational decisions. Using practical examples from animal production, David Speller will demonstrate how animal, environmental, and production data can be connected to support decision-making, improve consistency, and enable greater automation over time, while people continue to provide oversight and remain accountable for operational outcomes.
