Lameness is one of the most common health problems in dairy farming and adversely affects both animal welfare and economic efficiency. Fraunhofer IGD is developing a camera-based, non-invasive health monitoring system that continuously records cows’ movement patterns and uses AI to analyse their gait, posture and movement sequences. This enables the early and objective detection of the first signs of lameness. The information obtained helps farmers take targeted action and improve herd management in the long term.
