About
Good water quality means the fish is doing well – or does it? Fish are in constant interaction with their aquatic environment, and often the animal itself reveals changes before a single parameter does. This talk explores what makes aquatic animals different, how stress and sentience shape fish welfare, and why welfare is more than health and growth. The “Welfare Check” combines animal-based observations with environmental parameters to provide a practical approach to assessing fish welfare in aquaculture.
